Victoria like the huge Amazonian water lilies which float on the waters of the river Rio. The disks shield the light sources that produce an indirect and diffused light. Staggered and arranged on several levels, the disks are spread around a central linear body that goes through and keeps them together, as a stem with leaves. Victoria is a suspension lamp conceived to create a sculptural object, light, with a major impact in space. The result is a delicate system of reciprocal balances, with a vertical development. The narrow central cylinder integrates into the lower part a further source, which guarantees a spot light.

About

Valerio Sommella is an Italian industrial designer, born in Cortona, Tuscany, and raised in Milan, where he graduated with Honours from the Design Department of the Milan Polytechnic. He spent the first years of his career working between Milan and Amsterdam before founding Valerio Sommella Design Studio in 2009, where he works for Italian and international companies designing products ranging from lighting to furniture, from consumer electronics to accessories, with a marked preference for large numbers but without disdaining the small series. He considers each project as an opportunity to express his idea of design, which investigates the language of objects through formal, material, and technological research, describing the products he designs not as chapters of the same book, but as short stories, each with its plot, characters, and ending, united by the same writing.
Over the years he worked for companies such as Alessi, Alcantara, Apple, Moooi, Nemo, Kdln, Honda, Falmec, Konica Minolta, Panasonic, Penta, RH, and many others.
