A graphic project that starting from encyclopedic illustrations of fish, reproduces, reflects and breaks them down to destruction through the use of irregular kaleidoscopes.
Born from research on geometry and animalier prints, illusioni ittiche explores the possibility of random creation and the loss of control over the final result: large images showing a gradual transition from the representation of readable subjects to abstract and purely graphic ones.

About

Valerio Sommella is an Italian Industrial designer, born in Tuscany in 1980. He graduated cum laude at the Politecnico of Milan in 2004, and began his design career with Stefano Giovannoni. After working for Marcel Wanders’ team in Amsterdam, he moved back to Milan where he founded Valerio Sommella Design Studio in 2009. He has collaborated with a wide range of companies, focusing on everyday objects, furniture, lighting and accessories, with the same attention for small scale production as well as mass market.

He considers every project as an opportunity to challenge his idea of design, a constant dialogue between context, users, materials, technologies and beauty. The resulting objects are not chapters of the same book, but short stories, each one with its own plot, carachters and finale.

Over the years his Studio developed projects for companies such as Alessi, Moooi, Kundalini, Calligaris, Honda, Falmec, Konica minolta, Modo, Panasonic, and many others.
