Valerio Sommella is an Italian industrial designer, born in Cortona, Tuscany, and raised in Milan where he graduated with Honours at the Design Department of the Milan Polytechnic. He spent the first years of his career working for important design practice between Milan and Amsterdam before he founded his studio in 2009. He collaborates with Italian and international companies, designing products ranging from lighting to furniture, from consumer electronics to accessories.
He considers each project as an opportunity to express his idea of design, which investigates the language of objects through formal, material and technological research. He describes the products he designs not as chapters of the same book, but as short stories, of various kinds, each with its own plot, characters and ending.
Over the years he worked for company such as Alessi, Alcantara, Apple, Moooi, Kundalini, Honda, Falmec, Konica Minolta, Panasonic, Penta and many others.
